Bexar County Detention Ministries

 

Cyndi Taylor Krier Correctional Center

3621 Farm Road , San Antonio , TX 78223

The Cyndi Taylor Krier Juvenile Correctional Treatment facility, houses 96 children in a secure setting; 24 females and 72 males. Children are placed at this County-operated facility after having been ordered to a secure treatment facility by one of the Juvenile judges. Most children are between the ages of 13 and 17, although children as young as 10 are eligible for placement at the Krier facility. Average length of stay is 9 months. The Krier facility provides a very structured treatment program, and partners with the University Health Science Center , East Central School District , University Health System Correctional Healthcare Services and Bexar County Detention Ministries, Inc. Epiphany Retreats are held once every six months and are facilitated by Epiphany volunteers. Epiphany is a non-denominational spiritual retreat specifically designed for incarcerated youth. Chapel services are held on Sundays, and weekly Bible studies every Thursday. One staff Chaplain and 23 community volunteers participate in services at the Krier facility. A BCDM Chaplain is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

 



Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center

The Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center (BCJDC) is a pre-adjudication, holding facility. The facility has the capacity to hold 192 residents. The educational component is provided by the San Antonio Independent School District . The University Health System Correctional Health Care Services provides medical, dental, and mental health services. Religious services and counseling are provided by Bexar County Detention Ministries, Inc. with one staff Chaplain and 31 community volunteers. A BCDM Chaplain is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

 


Bexar County Adult Detention Center

200 N. Comal, San Antonio , TX 78207

The Bexar County Adult Detention Center (BCADC) facility houses 2,865 male and female inmates at the main facility, and 805 male and female inmates at the annex facility. The BCADC provides an environment for incarcerated individuals in which correction of behavior is possible if the individual takes advantage of the numerous educational and support programs offered in the facility. BCDM staff and 73 community volunteers provide chapel services and pastoral counseling to the incarcerated individuals at the BCADC. A BCDM Chaplain is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

 



Central Texas Federal Detention Facility (GEO)

218 S. Laredo, San Antonio , TX 78210

The GEO Corrections Corporation Facility is formerly the Wackenhut Corrections facility, and many years ago was the Bexar County Adult Detention Center . The GEO Facility houses approximately 700 male and female adult inmates for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and Homeland Security. There are 40 chapel services held weekly, and 37 community volunteers participate in providing chapel services and pastoral counseling. A BCDM Chaplain is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

 


Bexar County Community Supervision and Corrections Department- Substance Abuse Treatment Facility 1 (SATF1)

The Substance Abuse Treatment Facility 1 (SATF1)) is a 100 bed substance abuse treatment program for male offenders. This facility is managed by the Bexar County Community Supervision and Corrections Department (Adult Probation) and the treatment program is provided by the Center for Health Care Services. Bexar County Detention Ministries staff and volunteers provide chapel services and pastoral counseling to the residents of the program. A BCDM Chaplain is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

 



Texas Adolescent Treatment Center

The Texas Adolescent Treatment Center (T.A.T.C.) is a 124 bed residential treatment facility. T.A.T.C. is a treatment alternative to incarceration for adolescents referred through the juvenile justice system and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS). The T.A.T.C. specializes in treatment of youth who have been victims of domestic violence, and sexual abuse. Bexar County Detention Ministries, Inc. staff and volunteers provide chapel services and pastoral counseling to the residents of T.A.T.C. and have 4 community volunteers. A BCDM Chaplain is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

 


 

San Antonio State Hospital

San Antonio State Hospital (SASH) provides intensive inpatient diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitative, and referral services for seriously mentally ill persons from South Texas . On the campus of SASH is a 100-bed treatment program for substance abusers; 50 beds are for female residents. The Center for Health Care Services provides treatment services and the Bexar County Community Supervision and Corrections Department (Adult Probation) oversees the operations of the facility. Bexar County Detention Ministries staff and 4 community volunteers provide ecumenical chapel services and Christian recovery services every Sunday afternoon. A BCDM chaplain is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

 


 

Laurel Ridge Treatment Center

Laurel Ridge is a psychiatric hospital offering a comprehensive continuum of behavioral healthcare services including acute programs for children, adolescents, and adults. Residential treatment is also available for adults, children and adolescents. Bexar County Detention Ministries, Inc. ( BCDM ) Staff and 7 volunteers provide chapel services and pastoral counseling to the residents of Laurel Ridge . A BCDM Chaplain is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

 

 


 

Hector Garza Facility

620 E. Afton Oaks Blvd.
San Antonio, Texas 78232

The Hector Garza Center is 121 bed General Residential Operation licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. It is located on 12 acres on the north-central part of San Antonio, Texas.  The Hector Garza Center has entered in an agreement with the Office of Refugee Resettlement/Division of Unaccompanied Children Service Program to provide care for unaccompanied children in a staff secure facility. Children receive treatment services along with additional services such as educational instruction, access to legal services and routine medical services.  Participants in the program receive additional services such as recreational, individual, and group counseling. The average length of stay is 30 to 90 days. These residents are predominantly from Central America. The goal is to reunify them with their families or return them to their country of origin.

BCDM community volunteers provide ecumenical worship services and pastoral counseling in Spanish to residents of Hector Garza.  A BCDM chaplain is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
