Girl Scout Gold Award Project

Hi, my name is Megan. I am a high school senior and a Girl Scout from Troop 810 of the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas.  I have been very lucky to be working with BCDM for my Gold Award Service Project.  The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn.  (It is equivalent to the Boy Scout Eagle Award.)

With a grant received from the Myra Strafford Pryor Charitable Trust, BCDM has asked me to help convert 600 sq ft of a storage building into a Clothes Closet, so their clients can find the right clothes to make a good impression in their job interviews and at their work places.

The reason why I wanted to do this is because I've helped BCDM in the past by collecting school supplies for the kids of Family Renewal Center clients. At Christmas I also help collect Christmas gifts for the children. I asked BCDM if they had a project that I could help them with for my Gold Award Project and they gave me the idea of the clothes closet.

I hope many people will benefit from the clothes they receive from here and that these clothes will help them feel successful and confident in their new jobs.
